Kennel Building with Outside Runs

Mortenson Kennels is available to assist you with your dog training and boarding needs.  Our facility opened in May 2002.  Mortenson Kennels is able to provide you over 20 years of dog care and dog training experience.  Rick worked as a Military Police Canine Trainer/Handler in the U.S. Army during his 5-year tour, which included all aspects of dog care and training. Over the last 20 years Rick has volunteered his training and handling experience to assist local police agencies with canine training; these agencies include the Linn County Sheriff Department, Iowa State Patrol, Cedar Falls Police Department and the Mason City Police Department. 

The kennel facility is a 30 x 36 building located on our rural Janesville acreage.  Outdoor accommodations for your dog consist of four (4) foot by 16-foot concrete runs with ample shade provided by a neighboring maple tree and an overhang above one-half of the outdoor kennel runs.  These outdoor runs also contain four (4) foot concrete walls to separate your pet from the neighboring guests.  This allows your dog to have a sense of privacy and individual space while visiting our kennel.  Above each of these concrete walls is chain link fencing up to the roof of the overhang to provide security from the neighboring dog. 

A “doggy door” connects the outdoor kennel runs to large indoor kennels that consist of concrete floors and steel walls.  The indoor steel walls once again provide your dog with a sense of space and privacy.   Each dog has his/her own resting mat; however we encourage you to bring a favorite bed or blanket for your pet as long as it is in clean condition. 

During all times of the year the kennel is climate-controlled. The indoor facility is fully insulated as well as being heated in the winter months and aqua mist cooled in the summer.  Fans are also often used in the summer to provide additional air circulation.

The kennel also contains a large outdoor exercise pen, which provides your dog with the opportunity to be off leash to play with his favorite toy, all dogs are exercised twice a day. 

We also have bathing facilities in the event that you would like your pet to have a bath prior to returning home.  Please ask us about this option.

All our guests are required to provide a copy from your veterinarian of proof that vaccinations for rabies, distemper, and kennel cough (bordatella) have been given.  These vaccinations must have been completed at least one week prior to their stay with Mortenson Kennels.
